Our April 2022 Lecture will be: Contaminants in Seabirds of the Gulf of St. Lawrence

GUEST LECTURER: Raphael Lavoie
Aquatic birds that inhabit the St. Lawrence are particularly at risk of exposure to contaminants from anthropogenic sources. Birds integrate environmental signals over a wide spatio-temporal scale, are sensitive to changes, and are good bioindicators of the ecosystem. This presentation will provide an overview of seabirds and the stressors they face while passing through the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

About our Speaker: Raphaël Lavoie studied in ecology with an emphasis in ecotoxicology of aquatic birds. He worked at the Canadian Wildlife Service, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) as a biologist and coordinator for environmental emergencies affecting migratory birds and species at risk in the St. Lawrence. He is now a Research Scientist in Ecotoxicology at ECCC studying the exposure of birds to contaminants that are persistent in the environment, bioaccumulate in organisms and are toxic to wildlife

NOTE: The lecture will be presented in English, followed by questions welcomed in English and French.
All are welcome but for security purposes if you don’t already have a free Zoom account you will need to create one and download either the desktop, mobile or tablet version of the Zoom app. »
