Animal Agriculture and the Global Environmental Impact
« Dr. Mehta will review the science regarding the tremendous ecological impact on climate, land, water, and biodiversity from animal agriculture, as compared to whole plant foods as staple foods. Animal agriculture is also the most likely cause of COVID-19 and puts us at high risk for future pandemics. Food security and food justice are intertwined concepts as he will also discuss, along with the nutrition benefits of whole plant foods. All scientific references will be made available.
Dr. Tushar Mehta studied at McMaster University and then completed medical school and residency at the University of Toronto. Currently, he practices Emergency Medicine but has also spent many years practicing Family Medicine and Addictions Medicine. Dr. Mehta also participates in international health projects, having volunteered on a yearly basis in rural India, and now doing work in Haiti (www.hephaiti.com).
Along with a small team, Dr. Mehta co-founded Plant Based Data (www.plantbaseddata.org), an online database which collects and organizes the most important academic and institutional literature regarding the impact of plant-based diet on health, environment and food security, including the role of animal agriculture in creating pandemics. »
