Animal Rebellion Ireland presents ‘Talks for a Compassionate Future’

« This new series of free monthly talks will present a wide range of speakers and topics covering all aspects of the climate and animal emergency. We’re hoping to educate ourselves, inform others and generate a compassionate dialogue.

For our first talk, we invite you to join us in welcoming Philip Murphy of Animal Rebellion NYC. Philip will be speaking on the topic “The Anti-Speciesist Imperative of Animal Rebellion.”

Of the ten Principles and Values held by Animal Rebellion, the first and arguably most important one is that ‘we are an anti-speciesist movement with a shared vision of change.’ Speciesism is defined as a belief of humans that all other species of animals are inferior and may therefore be used for human benefit without regard to the suffering inflicted. Philip is an outspoken defender of the importance of anti-speciesism to the climate and animal justice movement and he has written and spoken widely on this topic. We welcome the opportunity to hear from him directly, and to have a conversation that may lead to our greater understanding of this idea.

Philip Murphy

Philip Murphy is a co-founder of Animal Rebellion NYC, and serves as a North American Liaison to the global organisation. A longtime Buddhist practitioner, he is a founding member of the Buddhist Action Coalition, where he was successful in enacting a plant-sourced food policy and more recently, founded a Buddhist vegan organisation, Ahimsa Dharma Anti-Speciesist Action (ADASA). He resides in the greater New York City area with his wife, Anne O’Grady Murphy, and any number of rescue greyhounds. »
